In honor of America’s 250th, the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum has partnered with the South Carolina State Library to exhibit the Battle of Fort Sullivan.

The battle was one of rising confidence for South Carolina. The fort’s palmetto logs absorbed the onslaught, helping revolutionaries resist the first attempt to capture Charleston.

The palmetto symbol—central to the state flag, as well as the Relic Room logo—reminds us to embrace resilience and unity. The Relic Room supports these values through communal learning, providing displays for local county libraries, free public lectures and tours, and accessible resources for students of all ages.

The Fort Sullivan exhibit will be available through the end of the year. We invite you to join us at the SC State Library to reconnect with history and Columbia’s robust community programming.
